Enhancing Efficiency and Collaboration in Data Center Projects
At the heart of Australia's construction industry, Nilsen has established itself as a pivotal player in electrical engineering and contracting. With a rich history since 1916 and offices across all major Australian states, Nilsen stands out for its ability to tackle technically complex and award-winning projects. We spoke with the Nilsen BIM team who provided a deep dive into how Revizto has become integral to their operations.
The Nilsen BIM team shared with us that before Revizto, accessing and sharing models with site teams was always a bottleneck in their workflow.
Project Spotlight
In the NEXTDC A1 Data Center project, Nilsen demonstrated the robust capabilities of Revizto. As the lead on model coordination, they utilised Revizto’s clash automation extensively, which was crucial in managing the spatial constraints and stringent timelines of the project. The A1 Adelaide Data Center, developed by NEXTDC, is South Australia's first Uptime Institute Tier IV-certified data center, designed to accommodate up to 10MW of critical IT load. This state-of-the-art facility features advanced infrastructure, including distributed redundant N+1 static UPS supported by Rolls Royce engines, and cutting-edge cooling systems with hot aisle containment and free cooling economisation to ensure energy efficiency and reliability.
This approach not only ensured the accuracy of installations but also facilitated real-time updates essential for ongoing site work. Nilsen utilised Revizto across various roles, including modellers, project managers, and electricians. Revizto was employed on multiple devices such as desktops, iPads, iPhones, and laptops. During the design phase, the BIM coordinator and project manager used Revizto for collaboration, while during the construction and as-built phases, the BIM coordinator worked closely with electricians using the platform on-site. This seamless integration across different phases and roles significantly improved communication and efficiency on the project, streamlining communication and coordination between office and site.
Revizto enabled streamlined model sharing, enhanced QA processes through automated clash detection, and reduced project delivery times by facilitating real-time collaboration.
Challenges and Strategic Solutions
Before adopting Revizto, Nilsen faced several operational challenges that hindered efficiency and collaboration:
Limited Access and Sharing
Site teams struggled to access and view project models efficiently.
Internal Quality Assurance
The internal QA of models was cumbersome and time-intensive.
Clash Detection Delays
Traditional methods for clash detection were slow, affecting project timelines.
Implementing Revizto
Nilsen's partnership with Revizto began on major projects, driven by the need for better project delivery tools. Their engagement started with personalised training from Revizto, transforming their approach to project management.
Transformative Benefits
There were a number of key benefits Nilsen realised once Revizto was implemented on the project:
Integrating Revizto has not only simplified our workflows but significantly enhanced our on-time and on-budget delivery. As a result, Nilsen was able to deliver better quality projects, our productivity increased and we were able to take on more projects without the need of hiring additional resources.
